LAKE FOREST, Ill. — For the third time this year, members of the Fourth Estate enjoyed the fruits of a golfer’s labor.
In celebration of his hole-in-one Thursday in the storm-delayed first round of the BMW Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club, world No. 2 Jordan Spieth sent 20 deep dish pizzas from Giordano’s and eight cases of assorted Shiner beers to the media center. He also sent 10 deep dish pizzas to volunteers.
A placard accompanying the feast simply read: “A hole in one means a whole lot of pizza and beer.” Cheers – Jordan Spieth. He made his ace from 186 yards on the second hole using a 7-iron.
Earlier this year, Rickie Fowler, who made an ace on the ninth hole at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia during the Quicken Loans National, sent 300 beers to the media center.
And at The Barclays at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey, the first FedExCup Playoffs event, Brian Harman made two aces in the same round and sent cases of beer and a bottle of Seagram’s Crown Royal Whiskey to the media center.
Obviously, all three know their audience.
